На мой взгляд вы преувеличиваете :) Вот начало из A Treatise on the Astrolabe Чосера (1391 г.). Сколько примечаний здесь необходимо (кроме очевидных, что u = u, v; y = i, y; ee = ea, ee)?

Странный этот Чосер, он что, изобрёл неротический диалект в 14 веке?? И что он говорит про философа, реально ничего не понял: "he wraps himself in his friend that condescends to the request of his friend"?!

Mo < OE mā, в more добавлен суффикс сравнительной степени по аналогии.

просто как-то визуально wraps himself in (а не around, например) звучит вроде не он обнимает, а напрашивается, чтобы его обняли ??? :dunno:
